Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865)

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in a small house in Kentucky and grew up in a poor family. Even though his family didnโ€™t have much, he taught himself to read and became a lawyer.

Lincoln is most famous for ending slavery in the United States. During the Civil War, in 1863, he made the Emancipation Proclamation, which said that all slaves in the southern states were free. He also gave a famous speech called the Gettysburg Address, where he talked about freedom and equality.

Lincoln was president during a very difficult time in American history, but he worked hard to keep the country together. Sadly, after the war ended, Lincoln was shot and killed in 1865 while watching a play.

Abraham Lincoln is remembered for helping to free the slaves and for being a strong leader during the Civil War.
